Getting started in shoemaking isn't easy. The very first hurdle I ran into was finding lasts—the solid forms every shoe is built around. They’re absolutely essential, but they’re also surprisingly hard to come by. Good lasts are expensive, often sold only in bulk, and sometimes you have to hunt across continents just to find the right shapes and sizes. I spent so much time and money just trying to gather enough to begin making shoes that it almost felt impossible to get started at all. That challenge is exactly why I started Last the Last Library. I wanted to create a shared resource where makers don’t have to face the same struggle I did—where anyone can borrow the lasts they need to design, prototype, and create without being held back by cost or scarcity. Our lasts are here to support your shoemaking journey and more styles are to come.

Last Rental Agreement

Please read the rental guidelines below:

Rental Period:

• Customer may rent lasts for increments of 7 days.
  • Maximum borrowing period is 21 days.
• Due dates are set at checkout.

Deposit:

• A Valid Credit Card must be placed on file before renting a last.

  • A deposit of $25 is required per last rented. 
    • The deposit will be returned in full when lasts are returned on time and in good condition. 
    • Deposit will be forfeited if last is not returned on time. 

Shipping:

• Renter will be charged a flat rate fee of $20 for delivery & return shipping fees.
  • Use original packaging and enclosed shipping label when returning lasts.

Renewals:

• If no one else is waiting for that size/model, you may renew your loan for another 7 days.
• Renewals must be requested 2 days before the due date.
• Renewal fees will be charged to credit card on file. 

Returns:

• Lasts must be returned on or before the due date.
  • If returning by mail, return package must be postmarked on or before the due date.
• If an item is more than 14 days late, it will be considered lost and replacement fee ($200/last) will apply.
  • This fee will be charged to your card on file. 

Fines & Fees:

• Late return: As I only have 1 last per size and returning the last after the due date will inconvenience the next renter a $5 per day late fee will be charged for up to 14 days. 
• Lost or damaged last: If last is not returned in 14 days a $200 replacement fee per last will be charged to credit card on file.

Responsibility and Care:

• Please handle all lasts with care.
• Do not sand, drill, cut, or alter them in any fashion.
• Normal wear from shoemaking is fine, but any damage beyond that may result in a repair or replacement charge. 

Community Guidelines:

• Our lasts are shared resources—return them promptly so others can enjoy them.
• Borrowers with overdue items or unpaid fees may lose borrowing privileges until the account is settled. 

Agreement:

• By borrowing lasts, you agree to these guidelines.
