In April 2025, I had the honor of starting Misawa-san’s program at 靴作 の学校 (The Shoemaker's Class) in Tokyo. This book demonstrates the first two shoes in his renowned program: the Oxford and the Derby.  When my notes fail me, even though I do not read Japanese, this book is a lifesaver for me to recall the steps when creating in my home studio... when translation is needed I use Google Translate on my smartphone.

The best way for me to describe this book is "A picture is worth a thousand words."  This exquisitely crafted hardcover book is printed on durable, coated paper and serves as an exceptional reference and source of inspiration for any shoe creator.

Each step of the shoemaking process is meticulously photographed providing comprehensive step-by-step instruction for crafting the Oxford and the Derby.  The book also covers tools needed, leather, lasts, and incudes a pull-out example of the full-sized patterns.  I believe this book is a must have for all shoemakers.
